Plague Inc. Unknown Origin: Virus Mega-Brutal(3 Biohazard) Guide

blogger
Strategies for the Virus plague type in the Unknown Origin scenario could also be used for normal games with the same plague; The only difference between a normal game and this scenario is the ability to choose a starting country.

There's not much to note about the Virus plague in the unknown origin scenario. Like normal games, mutations will still happen more often than with other plague types especially with the Virus' unique ability, Viral Instability.

There's always an ideal country you'd want to start in. The best and only way to force your preferred country to show up is to repeatedly start a new game until your country is chosen. I strongly advise not to pursue games that begins your plague in rich countries--especially cold and rich ones.

Spicy's Strategy

My strategy works for 4 specific countries, but each of them requiring you to change the order of evolution of symptoms, transmissions, and abilities. I've tested this strategy over and over again in a non-scenario game of the Virus plague type in mega-brutal difficulty. Every win I got always finished within 365 days with a cure completion of below 25%, biohazard scores are always 5 out of 5. Not every game is successful, though, because of random events like awareness days, watch list placement, and your threat level being increased.

Because I've tested this strategy while selecting India as an origin country, the evolution order for this strategy will be based on starting in India. I'll list down the other countries this strategy has worked in at the end of the guide.(Gene setup will remain the same)

Gene Setup:

  • ATP Boost
  • Aquacyte
  • Sympto-Stasis
  • Darwinist
  • Extremophile

The Guide/Evolution order:

1.) If you're using this strategy for a normal Virus game, start in India. Wait until India is selected as your starting country.

2.) Immediately evolve the following, in this order:(Skip already mutated symptoms)
  • Coughing
  • Rash
  • Water 1
  • Air 1
  • Water 2
  • Sneezing
  • Sweating
  • Cold Resistance 1
  • Drug Resistance 1
  • Cold Resistance 2
  • Skin Lesions
  • Pneumonia
  • Air 2
  • Extreme Bioaerosol

3.) In some games I had, the early mutation of Necrosis seems to cause some problems, mainly in making countries close down their ports earlier. The ideal time to evolve it(or for it to mutate) would have to be right after evolving Extreme Bioaerosol. Just thought I'd explain this, anyway continue on by evolving the following:
  • Necrosis
  • Pulmonary Fibrosis
  • Drug Resistance 2
  • Heat Resistance 1 & 2
  • Environmental Hardening
  • Total Organ Failure

4.) After Total Organ Failure, you'll need to evolve every Tier 1 and Tier 2 symptoms that raise infectivity which haven't mutated yet. Here's a list of the symptoms you should get:
  • Cysts
  • Hyper Senstivity
  • Abscesses
  • Anaemia
  • Haemophilia
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Pulmonary Oedema

5.) After evolving infectious symptoms, continue on by evolving ones that slow down the cure, namely:
  • Insomnia
  • Paranoia
  • Seizures
  • Insanity
  • Paralysis
  • Coma

6.) Wait until the whole world is completely infected, then evolve every possible symptom beginning from the most lethal one. The typical order would be Hemorrhagic Shock, Internal Hemorrhaging, Systemic Infection, then finally Tumours. It's also possible that you would have enough DNA to evolve every symptom--in that case, evolve everything.

It isn't really mandatory to wait until the complete infection of the world; You can choose to evolve lethal symptoms earlier if you want. Just make sure that there isn't a country left with an infection count of less than 25%, having a lot of lethal symptoms would kill them faster than Necrosis could infect new ones.

Other country options:

The strategy above worked for the following countries once. I decided to post them here in case you've been having troubles in getting to start in India, like me.

I had one game where India was selected. I wasn't paying attention to my game and lost.

South Africa

Nothing was changed with the strategy, I followed the same one posted above.

New Guinea
Instead of evolving Water 1 then Air 1 at the beginning, I evolved Water 1 & 2 then Air 1. New Guinea is an island country only accessible by ship(and also a humid climate), so I decided to prioritize evolving Water transmissions first to increase the chances of ship transmission. Besides that, nothing else was changed.

Iran
At the very beginning, I went straight for Necrosis. Right after evolving Coughing and Rashes, I gathered DNA to evolve Necrosis as soon as possible. After successfully evolving Necrosis and Pulmonary Fibrosis, I continued the strategy by beginning from Water 1 then proceeding normally.

  1. India also works for Pakistan. 3 biohazards, 379 days, 19% completed, 67072. Thanks!
