Once again, I am back to a plague type that I don't really feel comfortable playing in, Fungus. To be honest, I'd rather play scenarios like Black Death over and over again than play 10 games of Fungus. I don't really hate this plague type, but the randomness of spore bursts and the fact that this plague type has a hard time infecting through ships and planes makes everything harder than it already is at mega-brutal difficulty.
One advantage it has, though, is the fact that it has no problems starting in any country--even rich ones. This is mainly because of the Fungus' unique ability, Spore bursts and eruptions. Even if you're unlucky enough to start in cold & rich country like Canada, you'll still be able to recover by evolving spore bursts and infecting poor & hot countries--India is always a great country to be infected at a very early stage.
Although spore burst is, in fact, a great ability, it's still completely random where your spores end up. There are even cases where every spore burst you evolve seem to infect rich countries--needless to say, you do not want that to happen.
List of Guides:
Luckily, some amazing people(including myself) have already made guides for the Fungus plague type. Some made particularly for this scenario, and some made for a normal mega-brutal difficulty game. Don't worry about guides made for normal games, the great thing about Fungus is that you don't really need to start in a good plague-friendly country.

Spicy's Strategy
I have only won three times out of 6 games using this strategy. The losses were mainly because of bad infection orders from spore bursts and eruptions.
If you're using this strategy for a normal Fungus game, pick India as a starting country. The hot climate of India will give you a bonus in infectivity.
Here's the stats of the last 3 wins I had with this strategy
Gene Setup
- ATP Boost
- Aquacyte
- Patho-Stasis
- Genetic Mimic
- Extremophile
1.) Starting country does not matter. If you're using this guide for a normal game of Fungus, start in India. Pop the very first red bubble then immediately evolve 6 Spore Bursts and a Spore Eruption.
2.) If you're lucky enough to get India and China in the very first set of spore abilities, you will have a good game. Continue by evolving the following in this order:
- Rash
- Sweating
- Skin Lesions
- Bird 1
- Water 1
- Bird 2
- Water 2
- Cold Resistance 1
- Drug Resistance 1
- Cold Resistance 2
- Drug Resistance 2
- Necrosis
3,) The early mutation of Necrosis isn't really a bad thing, neither is the mutation of anything else. You can choose to devolve 2 mutated symptoms, though, it'll give you a little DNA(Only devolve twice, the third time won't give you any DNA and the succeeding ones will cost you DNA). Continue by evolving these abilities:
- Heat Resistance 1 & 2
- Environmental Hardening
4.) At this point, you'll need to periodically check your infection summary spread(World tab-Data) and wait until every country is infected. Once the very last country you need is infected, evolve these lethal symptoms in this order:
- Hemorrhagic Shock
- Internal Hemorrhaging
- Tumours
- Systemic Infection
- Coma
- Total Organ Failure
5.) The symptoms above will be enough to kill people quickly. Remaining DNA is best put towards evolving Genetic Re-Shuffles to slow down the cure progression.
That's it. I hope this strategy has helped you get those 3 golden biohazards for Fungus in the Unknown Origin scenario.

Great strategy. I also found that this method is a great strategy for Fungus Speed Run. The only change that I made was to evolve all the Spore Abilities, including Spore Hardening right from the beginning. If you want to test that method yourself, feel free. I had good results for it. (260 days)
